Minimum 1+ years intrepreter experience required.
We are seeking a skilled and certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide remote interpreting services for K-12 students in Oregon public schools. This role ensures equal access to educational instruction and school-related activities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The ideal candidate is fluent in ASL, experienced in educational settings, and comfortable using virtual platforms to deliver interpreting services.
Key Responsibilities:Provide real-time, remote ASL interpretation for students during classroom instruction, virtual lessons, and school-sponsored events.
Interpret teacher instruction, peer discussions, and other auditory information into ASL, and voice student responses when necessary.
Work collaboratively with teachers, special education staff, and educational teams to support students' communication needs.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct as defined by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as needed to provide insights on communication access and accommodations.
Use secure and FERPA-compliant technology platforms to deliver services.
Complete and maintain logs, reports, and documentation as required by the district or educational agency.
Required:
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
Current Oregon Educational Interpreter license or the ability to obtain one.
High school diploma or GED and completion of an interpreter training program.
RID certification or equivalent (e.g., EIPA score of 3.5 or higher).
Reliable internet connection and proficiency in remote communication tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams).
Preferred:
Previous experience interpreting in K12 educational settings.
Strong understanding of child development and educational terminology.
Bachelors degree in interpretation, Deaf studies, or a related field.
This is a fully remote position. Candidates must have a quiet, professional home workspace and a high-speed internet connection. Interpreters will interact with students, staff, and administrators primarily through secure video conferencing platforms.
