American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Neuro ICU position in Illinois requiring EPIC EMR proficiency and at least one year of ICU experience.

\n \n Responsibilities\n
  • Work in an 18-bed Neuro ICU within an acute care hospital setting
  • Patient population includes ventrics, strokes with and without tPA, and post-craniectomy cases
  • Nurse to patient ratio is 1:2 in ICU, 1:3 in intermediate care, and 1:4 on general floors when floating
  • Ventilators, arterial lines, central lines, and titratable drips are commonly used
  • Utilizes EPIC for charting; prior EPIC experience required
  • RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry strips on Phillips monitors
  • Schedule consists of 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), three shifts per week, rotating weekends and holidays
  • Travelers float first and may be assigned to any unit in the hospital, including higher and lower acuity units
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Responsibilities include acute management of neurological ICU patients and titration of multiple physician-ordered drips
  • Charge nurse and house supervisor support are present on each shift; charge nurse may take a patient assignment as needed
  • Patient care techs support the unit with a 9:1 ratio
  • Unit-specific orientation provided (20 hours: one 8-hour and one 12-hour shift)
  • Drug screen required; facility is a drug-free campus
  • COVID-19 vaccine is not required
  • Local candidates are considered but local rates apply for those residing within 50 miles

  • Active IL RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum of one year of recent ICU nursing experience required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA required
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification required
  • Experience required with ventriculostomy, ventilators, arterial lines, central lines, titrating drips, acute stroke management, and post-craniectomy care
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen equipment
  • Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
  • EPIC EMR experience required
