Tooling Engineer | Allendale, MI

Salary Range: $74,000 - $113,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize new and existing tooling, dies, jigs, and fixtures for manufacturing processes.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for tooling-related production issues and defects.
• Manage the maintenance, repair, and modification of production tooling to ensure operational readiness and extend lifespan.
• Evaluate and select appropriate tooling materials, coatings, and manufacturing processes to meet product specifications and cost targets.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, design, and quality teams to improve tooling performance, efficiency, and reliability.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for tooling specifications, designs, maintenance schedules, and spare parts.
• Provide technical support and training to production personnel on tooling setup, operation, and troubleshooting.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• 3-5+ years of experience in tooling design, manufacturing, or maintenance within a production environment.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA) for tooling design and analysis.
• Strong understanding of various manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, stamping, machining) and materials science.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and implement corrective actions for tooling issues.
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software for tool validation.
• Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
• Proficiency in additive manufacturing (3D printing) for prototyping or tooling inserts.
• Hands-on experience with CNC machining, EDM, or tool room operations.
