About Seton College :

Seton College is a new two-year college division of UMSV that will offer an associate’s degree for 100 students that have been historically underserved, who may require additional academic support, and who are motivated for post-secondary success annually beginning in the 2024–25 academic year. The program’s goal is to prepare students to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program or to begin their professional careers. Seton College seeks an Clinical Assistant Professor with a specialty in Philosophy for a full-time, teaching-focused, non-tenure-track, in-person position. The one-year renewable contract begins August 18, 2025 . Candidates should have a strong commitment to working with diverse student populations and a proven record of curricular innovation, teaching excellence, and advising.

Job Description:

HIST 203: Witches, Slaves, and Rebels - Inequality – due to race, class, gender, nationality, and many other factors – was a defining feature of life in colonial North America. This course will examine how inequality shaped people’s lives in colonial North America, focusing particularly on questions of the changing relationship of Native Americans with different European colonists, the formation of new understandings of race and class, early American patterns of slavery and servitude, and the Salem witch trials (3 credits).

History 203: Witches, Slaves, and Rebels
(Four sections available — instructors may teach up to two sections)

  • Section 1: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday | 9:05 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
  • Section 2: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday | 10:10 a.m. – 11:05 a.m.
  • Section 3: Monday, Wednesday | 12:50 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.
  • Section 4: Monday, Wednesday | 2:30 p.m. – 3:55 p.m.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach 3-6 credits in subject area of expertise using teaching practices that have been shown to be effective for first-generation students.
  • Provide an up to date syllabus for students.
  • Maintain an engaging and welcoming classroom setting that promotes high standards and inclusivity.
  • Actively contribute to a professional learning community by participating in professional development that promotes pedagogical learning and growth.
  • Be present and available to students on campus during office hours.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in the subject area required; doctorate preferred
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching and use of active-learning pedagogy
  • Commitment to engaging students beyond the classroom experience
  • Willingness to continuously improve teaching practices and collaborate within a learning community
  • Strong commitment to serving a diverse student population, including underserved, minority, and first-generation college students
  • Student-centered philosophy aligned with the mission of the University of Mount Saint Vincent to educate the whole person
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail
  • Proactive and creative approach to problem-solving
  • Experience working with HEOP students is highly encouraged
