Description of Work The Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf (ENCSD) is a state school serving the 54 easternmost counties that provides a specialized learning environment for deaf and hard of hearing students, kindergarten through 12th grade, following a typical school calendar. The ENCSD offers students an academic setting with standards-based instruction, low classroom ratios, career and vocational skills development, current technology, and an overall accessible environment for learning through American Sign Language. A boarding program is available for enrolled students residing outside of Wilson County. The ENCSD seeks to promote both intentional and experiential learning to provide continued advancement in student academic achievement and social/emotional well-being. The ENCSD is seeking a dynamic principal to lead the Academic program. The ideal candidate will have proven abilities to effectively lead a program for students who are deaf and/or hard of hearing and will be fluent in American Sign Language. The Principal will work closely and collaboratively with the School Director to administer, coordinate, and supervise the entire instructional program, to develop and maintain strong community partnerships, and to coordinate student services campus-wide. This position is responsible for supervision of all licensed staff and state personnel staff assigned to the Academic Department. This includes, but is not limited to, assignment of duties, performance observations and evaluations, shaping a vision of academic success for all students, creating a climate of dedication to student success, cultivating leadership in others, and improving instruction. This position will independently resolve routine work problems and complaints, including facilitating conflict resolution between staff, job coaching and documented counseling. Lead the student placement process. Develop student and staff schedules for orderly management of the educational programs. Ensures curriculum is used aligned with the NC Common Core State Standards and the needs of students who are DHH. Administer Student Code of Conduct. Responsible for actively supporting the School Improvement Team and providing administrative support for implementation of the School Improvement Plan. Monitors students, staff, assessment results, interdepartmental coordination, and parent communication to ensure every section of the School Improvement Plan is being implemented. Responsible for ensuring compliance with the IDEA. This is a 12-month position working Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm. Schedule adjustments are required for special events and extracurricular activities. Occasional travel may be required. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities / Competencies Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of K-12 school curriculum and concepts. Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. Ability to develop and implement projects. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents. Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Minimum Education And Experience Requirements Valid North Carolina Professional Educators Certificate as a School Principal or the ability to obtain Principal Licensure upon hire. Salary is based on the NC State Board of Education Salary Schedule for Principals at the Administrative Range of 0-200 and will vary upon experience. The Eastern NC School for the Deaf also pays an additional 8% monthly as a supplement to the state schedule.
