Job Summary:

The Laser Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling, aligning, and testing laser components, subassemblies, and full laser systems. This role requires expertise in optics, mechanical, and electrical assembly, as well as experience with military-grade lasers. The technician will collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to support design improvements and production transition.

Key Responsibilities:

• Read work orders, production drawings, or follow verbal instructions to perform assembly tasks.
• Position and align parts using jigs, fixtures, or other holding devices.
• Assemble, align, and test laser components, lasers, and laser system assemblies under limited supervision.
• Perform optical bonding, cleaning, and inspection of laser units.
• Conduct optical inspections using interferometric equipment.
• Record, analyze, and interpret test data; make recommendations to improve yield.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing to ensure low-cost, producible designs.
• Mentor and train junior technicians.
• Set up and verify optical, electronic, and environmental test equipment.
• Assemble mechanical parts, cooling systems, wiring harnesses, and perform PCB assembly.
• Conduct integration and diagnostics on optical/electro-optical systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support production and quality goals.

Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 6 years relevant experience, or Associate’s Degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
2. 3+ years experience working with optics in a manufacturing environment.
3. 4+ years experience with military-grade lasers in production.
4. 4+ years experience in testing, integration, and diagnostics of optics/lasers.
5. 4+ years experience in electrical and mechanical assembly.
6. Ability to work weekends and evenings as required.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

• Fully capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Thorough understanding of all elements of laser resonator cavities.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
