Schedule: Full time, evenings, Mon-Fri with weekend rotation.
Pay Range: $24.00 -$32.00, based on experience

Main Function:
Responsible for the overall administration, budgetary, and operational functions of the Sterile Reprocessing department.
Develops long-term & short-term strategies to actively support the System’s vision, mission and values under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services.
Actively supports Sterile Reprocessing associates in training and certification initiatives.
Maintains a professional, enjoyable, and orderly work environment.
Interprets policies, procedures, standards and regulations as is appropriate to nursing and the medical staff.
Assures quality and fulfillment of all regulatory and compliance requirements.
Recognizes and supports the Thompson Way, has a vision for quality, and demonstrates professional leadership and direction for Sterile Reprocessing.

Prepares written documentation and policies and procedures as required for the department; maintains records.
Organizes, directs & coordinates functions & activities in Sterile Reprocessing; interprets & implements established policies, procedures, and regulations.
Gathers information for missing, contaminated, and outdated charges for the month.
Infection Control, Environment of Care/Safety: 70%
Follows established policy and procedure for bloodborne pathogens and standard precautions to identify and reduce the risks of infections/exposures among patients, employees, etc.
Monitors functions of staff in decontamination to meet CDC, OSHA, EPA, AAMI, state guidelines and standards, as required.
Demonstrates proper hand washing techniques.
Identifies and/or disposes sharps and contaminated articles appropriately.
Follows proper procedure for associate injury.
Sterilizes instruments, equipment and supplies as required, handles and stores instruments, equipment and supplies appropriately.
Oversees sterilization, assembly and storage of medical supplies and equipment for the Health System.
Establishes and oversees methods for preparing, handling and storing sterile equipment and materials.
Maintains the cleanliness of work areas.
Establishes policies and procedures for decontaminating, setting up and sterilization of instruments and equipment.
Monitors for sterilizer mechanically, biologically & chemically in accordance with quality assurance standards & performance improvement standards.
Applies appropriate ergonomic principles to reduce the potential for job related injuries.
Maintains and/or responds appropriately to the following:
Safety Management Plan
Security Plan
Hazardous Material and Waste Management Plan
Emergency Preparedness Plan
Knowledge of location and use of emergency response equipment (fire extinguishers, fire alarms, crash carts, etc.).
Notifies appropriate individual/department when equipment malfunctions and documents when needed (SMDA policy).
When indicated, completes occurrence reports within 24 hours.
Directs the requisitioning, sorting, labeling, and issuing of professional equipment.
Leadership, Management of Human Resources and department competencies: 25%
Makes decisions that reflect knowledge of facts and demonstrates good judgment when functioning as a team member or team leader.
Efficiently serves as a relief supervisor/worker as needed.
Exercises independent judgment in coordinating Sterile Reprocessing with Operating Room and nursing unit/area functions and other user departments in order to provide services promptly and efficiently.
Supports and encourages a harmonious working relationship within and between departments.
Actively supports group decisions.
Responds promptly with respect and regard to all types of customer’s (patients, visitors, peers) questions or work issues.
Motivates staff/co-workers in a positive manner.

Assists with orientation of other employees as applicable.
Willing to work additional hours/duties to meet the needs of the hospital.
Appropriately identifies self to others (i.e., patients, family, staff, physicians, etc.) and visibly wears ID badge with picture & I.D. not obstructed from view.
Ensures grievance procedures are followed using appropriate channels of communication to effectively express ideas, issues, concerns, suggestions & questions.

Evaluates work performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
Selects, teaches/orients and assigns department staff.
Qualifications:
High School graduation required.
Certified Central Sterile Processing Technician, required.
Current certification through IAHCSMM required.
1-3 years of sequential experience in Central Sterile Service or Operating Room, required.
Sterile Processing and Distribution Supervisor certification, preferred.
1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
Affiliated with national organization, preferred.
AAS degree preferred.
